The MEC was inaugurated in 1926, one year after the Cit\u00e9 internationale universitaire de Paris was founded. It has already hosted great names such as Pierre Elliott Trudeau, Adrienne Clarkson, Jacques Parizeau, Louise Beaudoin, Gaston Miron, \u00c9mile Borduas and Alfred Pellan.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><strong>Discover the significant events of its history :<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n  <div class=\"timeline  \">\n        <div class=\"timeline__container  left animated__element animated__element-slide-left\">\n      <div class=\"content\">\n        <h2> <span>1926 <\/span><\/h2>\n        <p>Thanks to the efforts of High Commissioner Philippe Roy and the financial support of Senator Marcelin Wilson, the Maison des \u00e9tudiants canadiens is inaugurated on October 30, 1926. Many celebrities were present at the event, including the Prince of Wales, representing the British government, and the President of France. The MEC was the second house in the Cit\u00e9.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  \n\n      <div class=\"timeline__container  right animated__element animated__element-slide-right\">\n      <div class=\"content\">\n        <h2> <span>1937 &#8211; 1947 <\/span><\/h2>\n        <p>Many students leave the MEC during World War II. The Germans occupy the houses of the Cit\u00e9 internationale universitaire, including the Maison des \u00e9tudiants canadiens.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  \n\n      <div class=\"timeline__container  left animated__element animated__element-slide-left\">\n      <div class=\"content\">\n        <h2> <span>1948 &#8211; 1951 <\/span><\/h2>\n        <p>Paul Riou is appointed as the first Director of the MEC.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  \n\n      <div class=\"timeline__container  right animated__element animated__element-slide-right\">\n      <div class=\"content\">\n        <h2> <span>1952 <\/span><\/h2>\n        <p>With the arrival of the new Director of the MEC, Lionel Lemay, cultural activities flourish in the house. Lionel Lemay welcomes numerous groups, actors and musicians. This cultural dynamism continues to this day.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  \n\n      <div class=\"timeline__container  left animated__element animated__element-slide-left\">\n      <div class=\"content\">\n        <h2> <span>1957 &#8211; 1958 <\/span><\/h2>\n        <p>Arrival of the first women in the House.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  \n\n      <div class=\"timeline__container  right animated__element animated__element-slide-right\">\n      <div class=\"content\">\n        <h2> <span>1967 &#8211; 1968 <\/span><\/h2>\n        <p>To secure its financial viability, the MEC undertakes an expansion. This allows it to double the number of rooms, and increase the shared spaces. <\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  \n\n      <div class=\"timeline__container  left animated__element animated__element-slide-left\">\n      <div class=\"content\">\n        <h2> <span>1984 &#8211; 1985 <\/span><\/h2>\n        <p>In 1984, the MEC closes for one year for major renovations. These take place thanks to the support of Jean P. W. Ostiguy, who was President of the Canadian Committee of the MEC, and who volunteered during many years of his life to support the House.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  \n\n      <div class=\"timeline__container  right animated__element animated__element-slide-right\">\n      <div class=\"content\">\n        <h2> <span>1987 &#8211; 1996 <\/span><\/h2>\n        <p>The MEC becomes increasingly popular and prestigious among Canadian students and those of other countries. The tradition of artistic and intellectual events expands even more.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  \n\n      <div class=\"timeline__container  left animated__element animated__element-slide-left\">\n      <div class=\"content\">\n        <h2> <span>2001 <\/span><\/h2>\n        <p>The MEC celebrates its 75th birthday. Jean P. W. Ostiguy passes the torch of the presidency of the Canadian Committee to Robert Panet-Raymond.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  \n\n      <div class=\"timeline__container  right animated__element animated__element-slide-right\">\n      <div class=\"content\">\n        <h2> <span>2006 &#8211; 2016 <\/span><\/h2>\n        <p>The House undergoes additional renovations to offer private bathrooms in every room. The other members of the board of directors are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Representatives of the Committee in Canada;<\/li><li>Full members, namely the Rector Chancellor of l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Paris, and the President and General Delegate of la Cit\u00e9 internationale;<\/li><li>Qualified members, namely the General Delegate of Quebec in Paris, and the President of the residents\u2019 committee of the Maison<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:70px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"Committee\" class=\"wp-block-group \u00ab&nbsp;Comit\u00e9 au Canada de la Maison des \u00e9tudiants canadiens \u00e0 Paris&nbsp;\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The committee\u2019s objective is to help in the maintenance, development and
