Weaving connections means opening the door to infinite possibilities: sharing resources, passing on knowledge, and allowing cultural and human richness to circulate. These collaborative and vibrant relationships were placed in the spotlight at the 2025 Gala of the France–Canada Chamber of Commerce.

On November 19, the Maison des étudiants canadiens (MEC) had the privilege of experiencing a rare moment : one where a century-old institution sees the commitment it has carried for decades publicly celebrated. Led by its director, France Mainville, joined by Ilham Ismaili and several residents, the MEC attended the gala, an evening dedicated to highlighting everything that brings our two countries closer together.

This year’s Gala held special significance. For the very first time, a new distinction was introduced: the Hommage Award – Alexandre de Takacsy. It pays vibrant tribute to a true builder of the Franco-Canadian relationship. At 96 years old, Alexandre de Takacsy remains an emblematic figure of economic cooperation between the two nations. Former President of the Royal Bank of Canada in France and founding member of the France–Canada Chamber of Commerce, he has served on the MEC’s Board of Directors for over forty years, offering steadfast and invaluable support.

With great emotion, the MEC received the first-ever trophy bearing his name, opening the series of distinctions presented throughout the evening. This recognition resonates deeply, not only with the history of the House, but also with the energy, curiosity, and openness to the world that it continues to instill in every new generation of residents.

To represent the Maison, France Mainville was accompanied by Philippe Casgrain, CEO of Sodexo France and a dedicated member of the Board.

For a century, the MEC has been building bridges, welcoming, and bringing people together, always with the conviction that meaningful encounters are where everything begins.

The Hommage Award – Alexandre de Takacsy highlights the strength of this mission. The House, deeply honored, extends its warmest thanks to Mr. de Takacsy for his unwavering support, as well as to the France–Canada Chamber of Commerce for this wonderful evening.
